Peter Kearney studied Printmaking and Book IIlustation at Hornsey College of Art. He became a full-time art teacher and moved to Yorkshire in 1970 to become Head of Art and Design at King James's School, Knaresborough.

Since retirement he has developed his career as a painter and graphic artist and he has been particularly inspired by the challenge of painting out of doors in all seasons and is drawn to the wilder parts of the Pennines and the Lake District Fells.

He is a tutor at art summer schools and also leads a large Harrogate art group. He uses a wide range of painting mediums to capture the play of light in both still life and landscape.

He has exhibited throughout Yorkshire and the North of England and enjoys working for commissions. His work is in private collections both in Europe and North America.
