About his work

He's currently working with reclaimed scrap, using the extraordinary variety of textures and patinas exhibited by old copper, to create individual often humorous sculptures of animals, and mythological beasts.

Working from Master templates, all originals are kept in his head ... viewing by appointment only!

Using silver-smithing methods and a self-taught mig-welding technique, his studio pieces are recreated in small batches of unique and numbered individuals.

Whether a diminutive 4.5 inch wingspan "Bee"or the 8.5 feet tall "Dragon", the same criteria applies,if the inner critic is happy then it can leave the studio.

Michael tells his own story:

Background

Our childhood describes the inner pathways along which we nurture the flora and fauna of our life’s unfolding experiences.

In childhood my peers described me as living in a world of my own.

When I grew up I wanted to be an elephant.

Having gained qualifications in Art, I have broadened my skills, refined my sensitivity, gained materials expertise, unravelled symbolism and cultivated a good memory.

My work is anthropomorphic, drawn from my inner theatre of cherished characters, archetypes & friends.

Subjected to a process of aesthetic judgement, material choice and technical resolution, they manifest as and when form, material and time dictate.

I am confident with a wide variety of materials and techniques.

I draw on life, and work with intuition, I aim to make my inner critic smile.
