The process begins with looking, at a place where I choose to be, or where I might find myself.

As an artist, how I 'see' the picture is determined by my individual personality, by the more than two thousand years of image making, and also by the rich human resources of philosophy.

My paintings combine the human need to make connections with the beauty of a place, the need to mirror what we see and feel when looking at the open skies, at the ocean, and the changing seasons, along with the expression of my personal journey.

That journey can speak also to, what Jung termed as, the 'collective unconscious', that is, where universal deeper meanings are felt.

I express the paradox of the self-conscious and self-important modern age, that of our one life journey, which seems fleeting when this is contrasted with our sense of timelessness, which is felt through nature, and history, and which we perhaps desire through complex beliefs that are based upon faiths.

Whilst my paintings are a conceptual construct, the design aesthetics of abstract composition tend to underlay, rather than be the obvious, overall composition.

The ultimate image, for me, is where the symbolic and emotional expression of colour and line maintain their attachment to naturalism and to narrative. It is for this reason that I take inspiration from the Renaissance artists.
