Blue
Wilson's a North Yorkshire artist whose dramatic geometric designs
make her work eye-catching, to say the least.
Blue
was still studying when, in 1998, she first showed her work professionally.
After
regularly exhibiting in London, she's now brought her paintings
home to Selby with a solo exhibition entitled 'Routes'.
The
show at Selby Town Hall Arts Centre is the first time Blue has displayed
her work in the area.

Background
Blue
attended Selby High School. After leaving she went on to study Fashion
in York, and then Art and Design in Exeter and Doncaster.
Then,
when she graduated from Loughborough University School of Art and
Design with a First, Blue had the pick of offers from the Royal
Academy of Art Schools or the Royal College of Art in London.
She
chose the Royal College of Arts, where she was awarded a scholarship
for her studies and went on to gain her Masters in Painting in 2002.
About
her work
For
her current work Blue draws inspiration from various sources including
computer related imagery, notions of the screen, television, advertising,
microphotography, mathematics and even Greek legend!
She
sets herself certain restrictions when producing a painting, but
also allows the painting to evolve naturally as it progresses.
The
result seems to be ordered and logical compositions combining geometry
and repetition.
Take
a closer look though, and you'll see slight shifts in the order,
suggesting a clever playfulness by the artist.
One
of the most frequent questions Blue gets asked, is "How long
does a painting take to produce?".
The
answer is, as long as it takes ... she works on several paintings
at once, the ones she created for 'Routes' took nine months, with
larger pieces taking the full amount of that time.
