Artist: Catherine Inglis
By Catherine Inglis
Catherine lives near York and her exquisite pastels are so realistic you feel as if you could reach out and touch the subject. Find out what inspires Catherine to create these wonderful pieces of art...
I am a professional artist specialising in soft pastel. I live near York where I have a studio. From here I teach pastel workshops. I've established art courses in the market town of Pocklington. I'm also a professional demonstrator for the SAA and visit art groups to give demonstrations and teach workshops in pastel.
I have a love of portraiture, especially animals and I am now well-established with commissions for animal portraits; particularly horses, working dogs and pet portraits. I'm becoming increasingly well-known for my wildlife work.
Pastel is a fabulous medium with an array of vibrant colours, which inspires me to create a variety of work.
I was elected to full membership of the Society of Women Artists in 2005 and I regularly exhibit in London and throughout the UK, including solo exhibitions. I'm included in the Who’s Who of Art.
My inspiration is fuelled by a deep love of the countryside and the nature. I'm passionate about my chosen medium of soft pastel; it provides a wonderful texture and vibrancy to my work.
I enjoy the challenge of my portrait commissions, the satisfaction of my wildlife painting and the freedom of expression allowed in a vibrant sunset of which the fresh exciting colours of pastels excel.
