NY Artist: Mike Jackson
Born in York and now living in Scarborough, Mike Jackson is a photographer. His work is varied, ranging from fabulous colour shots of events in Scarborough, to moody black and white studies. Find out more about Mike and his work...
Born in the historic City of York, I studied Graphic Design and Photography at the York College of Art and Technology and I continued to reside and work in the city until 2001, when I moved to Scarborough with my family.
My passion for photography covers many genres ranging from land and seascapes to social documentary and reportage. I have photographed the four-day film and music festival ‘Beached’ held on Scarborough’s South Beach for the last two years and exhibited a selection of photographs taken the previous year at the 2007 event.
My images have been published in Canada, and two of my earliest photographs, taken in 1981 are featured in the book ‘A Shop on Every Corner’; Memories of Leeman Road by Christine and Duncan Waddington, 2007.

Awarded first prize in the 2007 Scarborough Literary Festivals’ photographic competition, and frequently having images published in the local press, I continue to document contemporary Scarborough for posterity.
My current ongoing project, documents the demolition of the Corner Complex in Scarborough’s North Bay and the site's subsequent redevelopment.
