Harrogate's Kristina Grimes was odds-on favourite to win 'The Apprentice' series three in 2007 She got down to the final two, but Sir Alan passed her over in favour of Simon Ambrose. Kristina gave her first radio interview to BBC Radio York.
Harrogate hopeful Kristina was the favourite to land the £100k salary job with Alan Sugar, but was pipped to the post by Simon Ambrose.
Kristina is a single mum whose son is now 19. During the 12 week long series, she referred to her desire to make the most of "Kristina time".
A Harrogate resident, before joining 'The Apprentice' bandwagon she was the regional sales manager for a pharmaceutical company managing a team of reps across the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Sir Alan Sugar.
She had her son at a young age and worked with ruthless determination at university to get her maths degree, whilst caring for her son.
This single mindedness got her through to the final of 'The Apprentice'.
The morning after she was fired, Kristina gave her first radio interview to BBC Radio York's Richard Reynolds and Emily Bailey.
Kristina lost out to Simon.
Richard began by asking her what on earth a clever man like Sir Alan Sugar was thinking of when he hired Simon?
"I don't know, obviously I'm gutted because I wanted the accolade as well as the job. To me I outperformed Simon, the only thing I can think of is that when you think of the word apprentice, it's somebody young at the start of their career and I've got nine years on Simon and maybe that's the reason."
Of Simon, Kristina said that he's a loveable clown, but that he has a ruthless side. "He is quite shrewd and I think he does try and play the clown a little bit when he thinks that will give him the advantage and make people feel more comfortable about him and then he goes in for the kill later on."
Emily asked Kristina about her plans for the future.
"I’m going to look at what’s out there, what’s available. The primary focus is my career and I would love to look at maybe going back to the pharmaceutical industry, but I must admit that myself and Sir Alan are in discussions at the moment and I’ve got to look at the opportunities that lie there. The next move I make has got to be the right move which will bring me all the way up to the top of the ladder."
Looking back at the previous two series of 'The Apprentice', it's the runners-up who have gone on to bigger and better things. Just look at what Saira Khan and Ruth Badger have achieved. Can you even remember who the winners were?
Kristina is now the Investment Sales Director for a leading Property Developer (June 2009) and she appears on TV and is in demand as an inspirational and motivational speaker.
