The Conspirators in session at BBC Radio York

The Conspirators

Hailing from all over North Yorkshire The Conspirators set up their HQ in Bedale. From there the band began their plan to take over the world, starting with the American KIAC chart where they reached number one and held a strong position for ages.

With a sound that takes influences from all over the place, but both Clash and Blondie fans are going to like, The Conspirators are on to a winner. Despite any comparisons their upbeat, punk influenced Brit pop style is definitely their own, and it's gaining a global audience.

"We love entertaining crowds. We put on a really good show and think that's really important at a live gig"

The band's single Turning Green climbed to number one in the American KIAC chart, a measure that lots of people listened to their track online, and hopefully a sign of big things to come for another North Yorkshire band.

But does being from a rural area mean the band has to work harder? When the band performed live in session for Matt Seymour on BBC Radio York, we asked them that very question.

"Yes. We've worked on internet promotion quite hard, and that's helped a lot. But we have to be willing to travel, across to Leeds or down to London. We also have to rely on a lot of friends to follow us around and give us some support.

Who are you influenced by?

"We're all from really different backgrounds. I personally (Laura, drums) am a big fan of Travis Barker from Blink 182 and I quite like Copeland as well.

"One thing we have got common is that we love entertaining crowds. We put on a really good show and think that's really important at a live gig."

Is it just me, or is there a hint of Debbie Harry in the vocals?

"Well I was in a Blondie tribute band for the last seven years. I didn't really like Debbie Harry or know any Blondie. But a band I was in said I sounded a bit like her so we started the tribute band. But it's my natural voice, and some people say I have similar tones."

Tell us about your KIAC chart success

"It's an American independent chart that's based on radio play and internet downloads. We released Turning Green, it went to number one and stayed there for five weeks. It's currently still at number six, so someone must like us.

"We're hoping to make a success over here soon. We're hoping to release our new single by then end of the summer. We've got a record label showcase in July and all being well something good will come of that."

Saw these guys recently, brilliant band to see live and had a great laugh with them after the gig. Check out their songs on myspace, sound fab and singer has real amazing voice, loved the dress too!

Emma

Lewis The conspirators fan
the conspirators are a amazing band and i think that all there songs are brilliant. they should have more redcognision. I have been to lots of their gigs and all of them have been brilliant

Mike
Sadly it seems that people who are either jealous or just plain nasty are trying to put a fab band down. I have seen this band countless times. The singer has a great voice, the songs are very worthy, and, guess what?!! They are signed and releasing stuff which is well deserved! anyone thinking they can do better should be doing it and not slating a band for trying. It says something that all you lot are talking about them - but really daft put-down comments are pretty fake and childish. If you don't like them don't go to their gigs! You don't go round spouting out insults just because you may not like the music though. How sad! Leave the band alone and get a life!!!

daz
the ex guitarist is i ha just readin them comments. . Mixed reactions but it was fun for a while playin some o those guy's til the higher egos of the band thought it would be a good idea to start sacking key members . . My time jamming with laura and mike was great but i think without there guy's the band has had it's day . .

Anna
It's impossible to stay awake during one of their gigs! All the songs sound the same, the lyrics are like 'Rhyming for dummies'. A truly uninspiring bland band. There are dozens of superior bands in the area that are much more worthy of the air time and record deal.

Sal
terrible band

Berry
The Conspirators are awful. That singer is simply terrible, can't carry a tune.

Sue

the conspirators are sickeningly banal and mediocre

Adrian
The conspirators rule!!!! Robots was amazing! I hope that's the single they release. Laura's an amazing drummer - she beats the pants off most guy drummers. The whole band are awesome, but I do love the drums

Jo Masterton
I love this band - they're incredible. I heard them live a few weeks back and have been following their progress on Myspace - the session last night just proves how good they are.
