Slash Bikini

This York band bring you bouncy pop fun. Great music that's meant to be enjoyed but doesn't take itself too seriously. On Thursday 10th May they performed live in session on BBC Radio York and you can listen again right here.

Slash Bikini first came to the attention of More Raw when their excellent first demo album arrived. Well produced, packaged and with a photo of a fridge in a field on the front cover, we just couldn't ignore it.

The band later became known for performing naked at the York Maize Maze, but the less said about that the better.

Let's keep it about the music. And quite right too, because Slash Bikini have managed that tricky feat: a unique sound that isn't rubbish. But you can judge for yourself because they were live in session on BBC Radio York in May 2007. Click on the links below to hear the session tracks.

So, to get it out of the way as quickly as possible, where did the whole nakedness thing come from?

"We know the guy who owns the York maze. They were doing this nudist event and he asked us when we were drunk as a bet.

"I only realized it was a bad idea when I turned around and saw the fattest people in the world walking towards me, all naked. It was awful."

Where does the Slash Bikini sound come from?

"I always say we're between punk, pop and motown. Basically if it brings a smile to people's faces then we like it."

Tell us about the CD with the fridge

"We got a fridge, sprayed it and took a photo of it. It was actually a fridge from a rented house. I still managed to get my deposit back.

"We're about to record our difficult second album now. We're not sure what to call it. We've thought of 'The John Noakes Forcefield' and Uberlebe or just 'The Difficult Second Album'.

"We don't know if it's proving difficult because we haven't actually started yet. Although all the songs are written, so we just need to get them recorded."
