Music Features

The Side Effects

The Side Effects joined us in the More Raw studio for the show on Saturday 20 May 2006 and played what has to be the loudest acoustic session ever heard. Find out just what makes this anarchic band tick.

Q: Is it fair to say you guys don't take yourselves too seriously?

What do you mean? No...well. yes. Best leave that one... pass.

"the roots go back to 1782 when we were actually a two thousand piece pygmy cannibal death trance ensemble."

I wouldn't say we take ourselves particularly seriously. We work a lot, but when we're playing it's a bit of a free for all really. We take the music seriously, but we also make sure we have fun while we're playing. So there's quite a few tracks that have a bit of humour in them.

It's serious fun.

Q: How long has the band been going?

Our first gig was in the Blues Bar in July 2005. But if you trace the roots back it goes all the way to 1782 when we were actually a two thousand piece pygmy cannibal death trance ensemble.

Q: You have a new single coming out, tell us about that.

The Side Effects

It's all about the lead singer sleeping with the guitarists girlfriend...

Q: What have you got in the pipeline at the moment?

We were gigging a lot before Christmas and into the new year but at the moment we're quite busy working on the new album at Straytown studios in Harrogate. However we're organising a summer tour (including a festival gig in Knaresborough) to coincide with the release of the album so that's very exciting.

Q: Where can people buy your music?

It'll be available from the Straytown website, but it's being properly released so you'll be able to get it on iTunes and in mainstream record shops as well.
