BBC Radio York is available to listen to live on the internet, but did you know that you can also choose to hear some programmes again?

Here how to do it:

On the right hand side of this page, and indeed many pages across our website, is a link that reads "Listen Live".

Click on this link and the BBC iPlayer pop-up box will open. After a few moments, you should hear the current live programme.

If you want to listen to BBC Radio York live, you don't have to do anything else. This is also where you'll find live football and rugby league commentary.

The BBC iPlayer is split into two sections. On the left you'll see what's currently playing. On the right you'll see a list of shows available for you to listen to again.

All you have to do is click on the programme of your choice and, after a few moments, it should start to play.

At the top left of the BBC iPlayer are some tape recorder style controls that allow you to pause the programme and skip forward, very useful if you're searching out a specific part of the show.

It doesn't work. What do I do?

As with all things technical, sometimes it just isn't that simple. So here are a few pointers that might get you going if you run into problems.

The BBC Radio Player opens as a pop-up window so if you have a pop-up blocker installed the BBC iPlayer may fail to appear. It's best to configure pop-up blockers to allow pop-ups from bbc.co.uk websites.

Currently the BBC iPlayer needs a programme called RealPlayer to work. If you don't have this installed the BBC iPlayer will tell you, and take you to a download site. Just download and install RealPlayer, and then the BBC iPlayer should work.

Although it isn't essential a broadband connection is recommended. It is possible to use the BBC iPlayer over a dial-up connection, but the sound quality is likely to be poor and the connection may be unreliable.

If you still have problems, there's an excellent technical support page on the BBC iPlayer itself: Click on Listen Live to open the BBC iPlayer and then click 'Get help' at the bottom of the window. There you can find more information and, if necessary, you can send a message to the specialists who make it all work.
