Jonathan Cowap

Jonathan will bring you a discussion of the day's issues between 12 noon and 3pm, Monday to Friday. He's used to challenging politicians and the like with difficult questions, so how did he get on with this challenging and in-depth questionnaire?

Star sign:  Don’t have one! Don’t believe in them. But if you want to work it out for yourself (and put me on your birthday list) I was born on September 26th 1961.

Born 'n' Bred:  Congleton (A small town in Cheshire that has produced a great number of BBC Radio York staff over the years!).

First memory:  Mashed carrots with cheese sauce.

First record bought:  Either Sandie Shaw 'Puppet On A String or Ronnie Hilton (?) A Mouse Lived in A Windmill'.

First job:  Petrol pump attendant - £5 for working 8am to 6pm on Sundays. Then working nightshifts in a currant washing factory. You wouldn’t believe the things that arrive from Greece in unwashed boxes of currants and raisins!

Little known fact about yourself: I can get a note out of a clarinet.

Favourite food and drink:  Don’t get me started! Look at the waistline and realise that there are very few things NOT on the list. How about a plate of pasta with pesto? Or some Spanish gambas al pilpil? Or some New England Clam Chowder? To drink - Rioja, Champagne or a cold beer.

Favourite place in the world:  Too many places to choose from! Almost anywhere in British Columbia, but particularly Vancouver Island. Umpteen places in South Africa along the Garden route or in the Winelands and perhaps somewhere amongst the white Villages of Andalucia or in the middle of the Montes de Malaga Park in Spain.

Favourite place in North Yorkshire:  My bed! But if I’ve got to choose Robin Hood’s Bay or Wensleydale would do for me.

Any pet hates:  Queuing in supermarkets. Thoughtless parking and people who speed. Liars.

What would your desert island luxury be:  Soap.

Most embarrassing radio moment:  Too many to list here.

Best radio moment:  Announcing that the Berlin Wall had fallen.

Who would be your dream co-presenter:  Mariella Frostrup,  Jenni Murray or John Humphreys.

If you weren’t a broadcaster what would you be:  A travel agent or a computer nerd.
