Where are they now - Merryn Myatt

"My dearest memory of presenting North West Tonight was when I was expecting my son Tom, who's now 13. I was getting so large that viewers were writing in, worried that I'd have the baby there and then in the studio."

"They were nearly right - I decided to stop work a week earlier than planned, and Tom arrived 24 hours later."

"He also took his first steps in the old newsroom at Oxford Rd, when I brought him to work with me one weekend as I covered the 50th anniversary celebrations for VE day."

"I joined the North West Tonight presenting team in 1993 which I combined with presenting Woman's Hour on Radio 4 and hosting controversial studio debates on BBC2."

...and Merryn Myatt today.

"My most vivid memory will always be walking through the devastation of the Arndale Centre hours after the IRA bomb with a camera crew. I deliberately presented the news that night in a bright yellow jacket - my small contribution to showing them that Manchester wasn't going to be easily crushed!"

"I still live in Cheshire and I've since been putting my many years of journalistic and broadcast experience to good use. I've teamed up with my friend Sarah Perris to form Perris-Myatt – we advise companies from around the world on the benefits of working better with the media and on improving the way they communicate generally."

"If the programme ever decides to have a show presented by the 'oldies' I'll be at the front of the queue!"
