Elvis talks to Ranvir Singh

Elvis Costello comes home

Elvis Costello has spoken exclusively to North West Tonight ahead of a secret concert at the Flying Picket in Liverpool on Thursday evening [05.07.07]. See the full length interview, conducted by Ranvir Singh, here.

Elvis Costello is one of the country's most respected musicians. From his punk beginnings with backing band the Attractions to collaborations with such luminaries as Burt Bacharach to a stunning solo career, he's done the lot.

He tells Ranvir Singh about how the city of Liverpool pulls him in and how the venue where he is playing the secret gig - the Flying Picket - is part of the city's cultural resistance.

He also talks about how the gig will prove to be an ideal chance for his new backing band, drawn from around the world, to rehearse on a smaller stage and how he began playing music to audiences for the princely sum of 50p at the St. George's Project.
