Carol was born in Liverpool and went to school there for a short time, but most of her education was completed in Runcorn, Cheshire.

With early ambitions to become an actress, she was the self-confessed “annoying one who was in every school play” and was sent on lots of drama courses by her school and education authority.

After her A-levels, Carol auditioned for RADA. They told her she was still young and needed to get some more life experience.

So, she worked in a TV shop, a zip factory, a hair products factory and a squash club. By the end of it all, Carol had decided to skip drama school and go to university.

After studying English literature and theatre studies in Liverpool, it was only then that she became interested in journalism, which led to a year’s post graduate course in radio and TV journalism in Preston.

Carol freelanced in radio for a bit, worked at an independent radio station then got a job at BBC Radio Lancashire.

After reporting for a while, she then co-presented the breakfast show with Mike West for a few years.

Carol then moved onto North West Tonight. After she began by reporting, she now presents the breakfast bulletisn on an alternate basis with Naomi Cornwell.
