In order to survive mankind needs food and shelter and over the centuries the western world in particular has over-exploited the earth to provide for not only his need but luxuries also. Now in the 21st century, we in Ireland, as in many other parts of the world have come to realise that we must care for and respect our world as did our ancient ancestors. In this quilt, man’s needs are represented by the log cabin
block (shelter) set in the field and furrow pattern (food). The
