Gregory Toner, (Place-Names of Northern Ireland etc.) also recommends Baile Eachaidh, 'Eochy's townland', however he does not rule out 'Baile Achaidh', 'the townland of the field'. He does appear to rule out 'Béal', 'mouth (of)' as the first element though, as do early sources!

Thank you for your website. We were blessed to have visited the Bawn and Bellaghy in 2003. My grandmother Susan Fullerton, who married Michael O'Connor, came from there to USA before 1892. We were trying to make connections with Fullertons or O'Neills - her mother's name. Enjoyed a wonderful visit with John Fullerton after we met at his garage. Patrick, Junior, secretary at St. mary's Church was wonderful to us. Patrick at the Bawn was very helpful to us, also.

The house at 20, Tamlaghtduff Road, Bellaghy, was the home of John Scullion, father of the Australian Prime Minister, James Henry Scullin.

I know, because I am the great- niece of PM Scullin and have stayed in the anscestral home a few times.

I would love to know if the church records from St Mary's are available online. I have tried emailing, without success. An American researcher told me that old baptismal records are available from the 1830s. I would be most grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.
