Update - Wednesday 7/7/04

Having talked with the site foreman today, it seems that the Kitchen Bar will come down the week beginning 26/7/04.

While the sun was shining we took the opportunity to photograph the Victoria Square site and were lucky enough to catch a few interior shots of the empty pub as the catering equipment was being taken away.

Victoria Square

Building site, Kitchen Bar circled
An old couple take in the new scene at Victoria Square. No more great ales, stout and Paddy Pizza's in this area.   The Kitchen Bar circled, with Churchill House towering above, both are doomed to demolition.

click the picture, above right, of Churchill House to watch it being demolished !

Inside the Kitchen Bar - revealing radiators!

Empty pub - no craic.
Weird, I've been in this pub dozens of times and never noticed the radiators.   This scene is very different from the usual throng of people eating and drinking, sharing all manner of conversation with cigarette smoke filling the air.

empty shelves behind the bar

more empty surfaces
How many bottles of beer have graced these shelves over the years ?   "would the last to leave the bar, please switch off the lights" A sad time for pub lovers.

And a reminder of what the Kitchen Bar was all about....
The bar itself

Inside the Kitchen Bar
The business end of the The Kitchen Bar . Many a hot whiskey and stew have been ordered here on a cold day.   The rear of the bar, towards the Parlour bar end. Note the theatrical black and white prints on the wall.
We hope to be there when the wrecking ball finally swings at this little piece of Belfast social history, to bring you pictures of the Kitchen's last hours.

Until then, let us know your thoughts, fill in the form below or start a discussion on the YPAM message board.
