Joe and Suzanne fly solo to the Big Apple for a spot of seasonal retail therapy and sightseeing. They prime themselves with a mega New York breakfast in the Carnegie Deli on 7th Avenue before setting out to see the spectacular sights of Manhattan from a variety of perspectives - an open-topped tour bus, the top of the Empire State Building and the Staten Island Ferry. They indulge in some serious drinking at McSorley' s Ale House on East 7th Street. Away from the big expensive stores, ther are actually free things that you can do in New York and it won't cost you a penny!

New York by night

Extra Info: There are no direct flights from Belfast to New York but you can take advantage of the improved road to Dublin airport and pick up a direct flight from there. Once you arrive, it will take another hour and a $25 cab ride to travel to the heart of Manhattan. You can get there by bus for about £8. Taxi’s are relatively cheap and plentiful, unless it starts to rain and then everybody wants one!
An even cheaper way to travel is the subway. It's actually a very safe way to travel and for the equivalent of about £4 you can get a day pass which takes you anywhere.
New York works on a grid system with avenues running North to South and Streets East to West. Most addresses will give you a cross point reference like the corner of 51st and 3rd and so it’s pretty easy to work out where your going.

Flying time: 7 hours from Dublin to JFK airport
Best time to visit: There is no off season in New York although there are cheaper flights in winter. Summer can get very hot
Currency: US Dollar
