Recommended restaurants
On the road back to Cala Bona you will find a restaurant called El Cortijo which is renowned on the east coast for its excellent pa amb oli – a favourite in Majorca. The great thing about it is that you get to make it yourself! If you’ve had enough of self-catering and you fancy treating yourself then why not check out the harbour at Cala Bona. There's lots of lovely restaurants to chose from. Suzanne went to Fonoll Mari restaurant where here is a great range of fish dishes: paella, squid, lovely shellfish, monkfish, sword fish and prawns.

Coming up from the centre of Pollenca is The Way Of The Cross, 365 steps flanked by Cypress trees ascending Calvary Hill to the beautiful little church on the top. For those of you who do brave the steps, legend has is that all your past year’s sins will be washed away by the time you reach the top. On top of the hill is the monstery Ermita de Nostra Senora del Puig.
Most people make the journey by foot, which takes about an hour from the centre of Pollenca. This Benedictine monastery complete with courtyard, chapel and refectory has had some of the original monks’ cells renovated into simple accommodation. You can rent a room for about £12.50 for a night and although the facilities are basic the views and serenity make up for any shortcomings.

Explore the towns and villages
Don’t be fooled into thinking there’s nothing more to Majorca than sun, sand and sea. Like most countries it has its hidden treasure’s, small villages that are steeped in history and very, very beautiful. You don’t have to drive to far to get to them either.
Pollenca for example is situated near the northern tip of Majorca and is a popular stop off for tourists where you can enjoy a leisurely walk around the narrow streets.

If you fancy a day on the open waves, why not take a trip on a glass bottom boat or do what we did and went on the Caribia Yacht Charters. There are several different trips for you to choose from, each of them leaving from Porto Colom. We anchored at a beautiful bay, had lunch on board, went swimming and then sailed home. It’s a great way to discover the Balearic Islands. Yacht Trip - £60 per person for a one day cruise including transfer from your resort, sailing tuition, trip to secluded bay and a buffet lunch.
