The island of Cyprus, which lies at the junction of three continents, is the holiday choice of friends, Jenny Lafferty and Noleen Duffy. The friends jet out of Belfast International Airport in the company of presenters Joe Lindsay and Suzanne Cowie, en route for the sunshine of the eastern Mediterranean. Their accommodation is at the up-market Le Meridien Spa and Resort in Limassol.

Cyprus has something to offer to all the thousands of tourists, who flock there every year. The popular resort of Limassol has both a quaint old town and a busy tourist strip. We share a traditional Cypriot meal and go for a relaxing spa treatment at the hotel and Joe risks life and limb on the Time Elevator ride, in the company of a young friend.

Extra Info: Direct flights from Aldergrove don’t start until Easter.
Cyprus Map The
beaches around Limassol have volcanic sand, which is blacker than normal sand. It may not be to everybody’s taste but one of its properties is that it does not stick to the body quite as much as golden sand.
Food and drink: The food is pretty cheap. An omelette and chips cost £2.35 and a beef burger will set you back about £1.50. Kalamari, chips and salad costs about £3.95. Drink is also very cheap especially the local beers. Keo beer is about £1.30 a pint.
The local spirits are also cheap, about £1.40 a measure whereas if you wanted something imported like Bacardi or Jameson it works out really expensive. If you want any drinks like that we suggest you buy them in duty free on the way out.
Flying time: Flight time to Larnaca is 5 hours
Best time to visit: It can get very cold in Cyprus in the winter. Joe and Suzanne were there in late April and the weather was very reasonable.
Currency: Cypriot pound
Time Difference: GMT = 2 hours ahead
Handy phrases: Good morning =kalimera, Good evening = kalispera, Good night = kalinikta and I love you = Saga Bor
