The Dornan family from Belfast jet off with Joe and Suzanne to the popular resort of Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain.

Benalmadena contains all the traditional activities and attractions one would expect from a busy resort on the Sunshine Coast, but there is another side to the place - in the picturesque streets and white walled buildings of the old quarter. The best views of the town and the long, sun-kissed coastline are from the Telecabina cable car and Suzanne and Dawn do some serious shopping and celebrity spotting at the exclusive yachting resort of Puerto Banus, a playground of the rich and famous.

Map of the Costa del SolFlying time: The flight to Malaga in Southern Spain takes about 2 hours ad 40 minutes
Best time to visit:
There is good weather virtually all year round, but during the high summer months temperatures can get very high.
Currency: Euro
Language: Spanish
Time Difference: GMT = 1 hour ahead

Extra Info: The coast roads in Costa del Sol are very busy. The road from Malaga to Marbella is one of the busiest in Europe during the summer, so you should bear this in mind if you’re thinking of hiring a car. Although car hire is quite reasonable, driving here can be a bit daunting. Apart from the traffic, the town roads are narrow and everyone travels at high speed so you might want to consider using the bus service which is cheap and an easy way to get around.
The beach in BenalmadenaBest Beaches: Normally on Ulster Fly we give our guide to The Top 5 Beaches but here in Benalmadena the coastline stretches on for miles, with neighbouring beaches in Torremolinos in one direction and Fuengirola in the other. Each beach offers similar attractions: shallow waters, golden sands, sun loungers, water-sports and they are close to all the amenities. So basically your top beach is the one nearest your accommodation.
