TEETHGRINDER

Meet DJ Scrunter:
The 17 and half year old DJ on Belfast 104.5FM

DJ Scrunter
DJ Scrunter

DJ Scrunter is from Belfast City and grew up on the estate where he still lives and where new local community radio station, Belfast 104.5FM, broadcasts from.

Scrunter left school at 16 with 2 GCSEs and was training to be a mechanic when he discovered turntables and taught himself how to DJ.

He started off in his youth club but progressed to social clubs and nightclubs once he was good enough. His ambition is to DJ in front of Belfast City Hall on New Year’s Eve.

His other passions include sportswear, bling, video games, clubbing and Liverpool FC.

He has perforated one of his ear drums from spending too much time in nightclubs so lives on Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and the dole.

He has two younger sisters and a brother who live a few streets away at home with his mother and stepdad.

Scrunter’s had a chequered past. He’s been in and out of young offenders centres over the years for a history of petty crime – burglary, joyriding, drugs. He’s currently doing community service – in fact, that’s why he’s on Belfast 104.5FM in the first place. It’s worked out well though because it turns out he’s good at it and he actually likes doing it. He has a growing army of young admirers up on the estate who tune in everyday for his show which is on
3pm-6pm.

Each week he has a star guest in the studio. The one thing they won’t get, however, is star treatment. Scrunter asks the questions no-one else has the balls to!

Scrunter is excited that the people at TEETHGRINDER decided to film for a few weeks at the station and had great fun doing it. Each week he will write his diary of what he has gotten up to and all the behind the scenes gossip at Belfast 104.5 FM.
