TEETHGRINDER

The Man behind the Voice

Peter, believe it or not, is originally from Dundonald just outside Belfast.
You’d never guess it by the sound of his voice now!
Peter is a cult figure today and a bit of a mad old dog - here’s how he got there...

Peter Dickson's Biography

Peter is a radio presenter, television announcer and voice over artist who rose to prominence in the 1990s. He started off as a continuity announcer on BBC Northern Ireland and ended up as the television newsreader.

He moved to London and became one of the continuity announcers at prestigious BBC Radio 4. Since then he has worked extensively as an announcer on the game shows and is one of the most prominent tv voice artists in the UK today.

He has also worked closely with Steve Wright, creating, writing and voicing many of the household name characters for Steve's afternoon and morning award winning shows on BBC Radio 1 during the 80s and early 90s.

In 1990, he launched the immensely successful Melody Radio (now Magic 105.4) in London, where he presented the breakfast show for four years. He continues to present music and entertainment shows for BBC Radio 2 and has contributed to two series of Quote Unquote for BBC Radio 4.

Peter was on board for the 25-part series of Family Fortunes starring Les Dennis and was Patrick Kielty's choice to carry the demanding live voice work on Last Chance Lottery Live. He has also contributed to They Think It's All Over, Catchphrase, TV's Naughtiest Blunders, Safe, and to Monkey Dust.

Peter has written for The Fast Show, Play Your Cards Right and many other TV shows. Since 1998 Peter has worked closely with the Discovery Channel, narrating over 250 of their documentaries.

Peter's voice is heard daily on most commercial radio stations across the UK. In multimedia Peter has completed the voices for several video games.

In 2004, Peter was cast to play various character roles in The Department, a comedy series on BBC Radio 4.

Although he can be often heard using a variety of accents and voices, Peter's most well-known booming vocal style is similar to the late Patrick Allen, and following Allen's death in 2006 he took over as the voice of digital tv channel E4.
