Series 2
Across the decades people in Northern Ireland used home movie cameras
to capture all kinds of special moments in their lives.
Family outings, holidays and local sports events are just some of the
many things they filmed. In this second series we see
more
of those evocative images and share in the intriguing stories they reveal.
Seventy-five years of life in Northern Ireland, recorded by the people
who live here, is chronicled in this television series.
Series 1
Never before broadcast, footage of life in Northern Ireland shot through
the eyes of local people and the lens of a home movie camera, will be
screened in Super 8 Stories.
The series has condensed hundreds of hours of home movie footage shot by local people to form the ‘people’s archive’ of life here through the decades. It features people at work, sporting moments and historical events coupled with the musical classics from each era.
Footage spanning much of the 20th century has been donated by people from Craigavon to Coleraine, from Beleek to Ballymena and is certain to provoke nostalgic memories of bygone times.
The home movies will show personal and
intimate footage capturing people relaxing on holiday in Fermanagh, enjoying
the show band heydays of the 60s, electric trams ruling the streets of Belfast
and the start of the Troubles.
Dermot Lavery of Double-Band Films and producer of Super 8 Stories said:
“Super 8 Stories is a real time capsule of 75 years of life in Northern Ireland but what really makes this series different is that it’s how ordinary local people have represented life here – the alternative Ulster."
“Northern Ireland people are traditionally nostalgic and we all like to look back at our history. This series will let viewers see a very different representation and record of the past with those unmistakable grainy, flickering images never broadcast before but which many will identify with and relate to from their own experiences.
“The public’s contribution to the series has been amazing with more than a hundred people donating their home movies resulting in hundreds of hours of footage that will make Super 8 Stories such fascinating and compelling viewing.
