About the Programme

A new ground-breaking Irish Language series, Seacht, about the emotional lives of seven first year graduate students in a performing arts academy in Belfast.

Amongst the impressive cast on is renowned actress Charlotte Bradley, who has previously starred in the movie About Adam, Tom Ó Súilleabháin, Bríd Ní Neachtain, Brendan Murray and former Ros Na Rún star Dairíne Ní Dhonnchú. Each of the seven lead roles were played by young actors who were selected following extensive nationwide auditions.

The gripping plot centres around the feisty, straight-talking and troubled Eithne, played by Ros Na Rún actress Linda Bhreathnach, whose rollercoaster love affair with the irresponsible yet charming DJ Pete (played by Eoghan McDermott), provides the series with its major dramatic storyline.

Neasa Ní Chuanaigh gives a convincing performance as Joanne, who sees herself to be Ireland’s very own Paris Hilton. Joanne is a manipulative, nasty, power-mad vixen who believes that her affair with a lecturer will land her the academy’s grand prize - a prestigious six month scholarship to a famous West End theatre.

Aoife Nic Ardghail plays Linda, who comes to the performance arts academy to escape her repressive father and ends up finding
love, friendship and a whole new direction in life. Andrew Kavanagh gives a charming performance as Decko, the lovable and talented student who is weighed down by his low self-esteem and shyness.

Decko is also a victim of a heartbreaking case of seemingly unrequited love for the willowy cellist Caroline played by Alana Henderson. And finally, Diarmaid Murtagh is the driven
ambitious and over-sexed character Brian, who doesn’t do relationships, just women!

This enthralling tale is guaranteed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as the characters, personalities and relationships develop and intertwine throughout the course of the series. The series was devised by Anne Learmont with script development executive Dearbhla Regan and storylined by Anne and Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhrighde.

Writers were Louise Ní Fhiannachta, Gemma Breathnach, Colleen
Ní Bhraonáin, Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhrighde, Sean de Gallaí and Edel Ní Dhrisceoil. A second series of Seacht was filmed on campus at Queens University Belfast during the summer of 2008 and will be screened by BBC NI in January 2009.

Seacht is a co-production between Stirling Film and Television Productions, Tyrone Productions, and EO Teilifís.
