Earlier this year, more than 4000 people descended upon the grounds
of City Hall, Belfast to enjoy an evening of beautiful music in stunning
surroundings for BBC Proms in the Park.
BBC Northern Ireland is now offering all those who were there the
chance to relive the magical evening - and those who weren’t
- the opportunity to enjoy it for the first time - when it broadcasts
the concert on Monday, December 29 on BBC Two
Northern Ireland at 6.15pm.
BBC Proms in the Park in Belfast was hosted by BBC Northern Ireland’s
Noel Thompson and features performances from some of the most accomplished
and well known names in classical and operatic music, including internationally
acclaimed Irish traditional music group Altan; top Irish soprano Cara
O’Sullivan; 12-year-old trombonist Peter Moore, winner of this
year’s BBC Young Musician of the Year and multi talented violinist
Jennifer Pike, herself a winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year
in 2002.
Also included in the line-up were Bangor’s Niamh Perry and Belfast-born
Rachel Tucker, who shot to fame after making it through to the finals
in BBC One’s ‘I’d Do Anything’ series, Lord
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s nationwide search for a Nancy to star
in the hit musical ‘Oliver’.
BBC Proms in the Park, now in its seventh year, saw BBC Northern Ireland
in partnership with Belfast City Council and
event sponsors NS&I, teaming up with the Ulster Orchestra, under
the baton of principal conductor, Kenneth Montgomery, on a grand scale
to present a night of popular classics.
Once again, the event was staged in cities across the United Kingdom
as part of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms.
Radio listeners can enjoy the event on BBC Radio Ulster on Christmas
Day at 3pm. BBC Proms in the Park Belfast was recorded by Landseer
Productions.
Declan McGovern, Executive Producer, BBC Proms in the Park Northern
Ireland, said: “For many, this event has become the
highlight of the classical music year. There’s more variety
in this year’s show than ever before, from musical theatre to
opera and from rousing traditional dance tunes to famous film music
- hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!”
