BBC Sport Northern Ireland is putting bike fans on pole position
with its extensive NW200 coverage across TV, radio and online as one
of the most famous and prestigious motorsport events in the world
celebrates its 80th anniversary.
The comprehensive coverage will ensure that fans don’t miss any of
the high-octane action with previews, all the news from the pit lane,
live race coverage, reports from behind-thescenes, interviews and
features on the riders, the fans and the people who make it one of
the sport’s biggest attractions.
On TV, up to 30 cameras will capture what’s happening on the circuit
including onboard cameras, heli-camera and kerb cams. The TV coverage
starts with a preview programme on BBC TWO Northern Ireland on Friday
night (May 15) from 10pm with Stephen Watson and Steve Parrish live
from the Triangle with special guests, features and the latest news
from the North Coast.
BBC Newsline will be reporting live from the circuit during the event
including special features from reporter and biker Gordon Adair. Gordon
will be chatting to fans, looking at bike safety and meeting those
who work behind the scenes. BBC Radio Ulster starts its coverage with
live commentary of Thursday evening’s practice session, getting underway
at 7pm on MW with Michael McNamee and Joel Taggart presenting live
action from the practice night races with Chris Kinley and Adrian
Coates heading up the commentary team.
On Friday night Jackie Fullerton looks ahead to the North West 200
with a special preview programme on BBC Radio Ulster. Among his guests
will be Liam Beckett plus many of the top riders and personalities.
Jackie’s North West 200 Preview is on MW only at 7pm.
On Saturday, attention turns to live coverage of the race day starting
at 11am on BBC Radio Ulster’s Summer Club live from Portrush with
Michael McNamee and Joel Taggart. There will be build up and commentary
of all seven races plus interviews with some of the personalities
from this showpiece event.
BBC Sport NI will continue to provide live race streaming, practice,
interviews and results through the dedicated website – bbc.co.uk/nw200
– which will offer fans the most comprehensive coverage of the event
ever, including live coverage of practice sessions and all the races.
This includes the practice sessions on Tuesday, May 12 from 7.00pm
to 9.00pm: Thursday, May 14 from 6.00pm to 9.00pm and the races on
Saturday, May 16 from 11.00am to 6.30pm. The final three races on
Saturday (May 16) will also be live behind the red button from 3pm.
Fans can join in the build-up with a live forum streamed online and
behind the red button on Wednesday night from 7.00pm with special

Also on the website, bike fans can get a flavour of what it’s like
to race the circuit with an onboard lap. The site is also crammed
full of archive video footage, interviews, profiles and downloads.
Special features on the website also include a fans’ page: ‘Your NW200’,
where you can post your views, memories or thoughts and a ‘Bikers
Blog’ which will be updated throughout the festival.
Anyone who misses the action will be able to catch up with all the
highlights in two one-hour specials - on BBC ONE Northern Ireland
on Sunday, May 17 at 10.20pm and Monday, May 19 at 10.25pm presented
by Stephen Watson with commentary from Keith Huewen, Philip McCallen
and Steve Parrish.
BBC Sport Northern Ireland’s Ceefax (page 390) service will also provide
the latest news and information during the NW 200 festival week and
if you miss any of the coverage on TV and radio you can listen/watch
again via the BBC’s iPlayer facility,
