Filmed in the summer of 2008, The Last Resort followed a radical approach
to dealing with six individuals’ addictions with the help
of three experts whose aim was to cleanse body and mind and look ahead
to the future. The series looked at how the six volunteers settled in
to, and adapted to, the regime while they were based at Ballywalter
Park in County Down.
The Last Resort’s three experts delved into their backgrounds,
looked at their nutritional habits and needs and provide dsustainable
plans for them when they leave after nine days.
The six volunteers have signed up to try to stop their addictions which
they feel have taken over their lives and even leaving them
with nothing to live for. They arrived at Ballywalter with a range of
bad habits, compulsive behaviours and cravings. Can the three experts
turn the six people away from their respective addictions in just nine
days? Executive Producer Colin Cameron of Tern TV who made the series
for BBC Northern Ireland said:
“These six people are six very different individuals
with different addictions – the one thing in common is that they
all want to find a way to stop the thing that is having such an impact
on their lives. And it’s very much a radical pproach to try and
do this
in just nine days. The big question is, can it be done?”
The six volunteers on the last series were:
Paddy: a 26-stone taxi driver addicted to binge-eating
Elaine: a 37-year old grandmother who started smoking
at the age of ten and now has a 40 a-day habit.
Paddy: a Dublin man who spends half his life, and all
his spare money, drinking.
Michelle: a Co Down mother who is addicted to junk
food.
Debbie: a mother who gets through eight bottles of
bleach a week due to her obsession with cleanliness.
Michael: a 34-year old body obsessive.
