As the programme title suggests the series focuses around the six counties of Northern Ireland – Fermanagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Londonderry, Armagh and Down.
On their various journeys, the guest presenters learn some of the local history and meet various characters living or working there today.
T is for Tyrone where ex-world snooker champion Dennis Taylor meets some old friends and reveals Coalisland’s industrial history on a trip to his home town.
In Fermanagh, actor Ciaran McMenamin returns to his home town of Enniskillen (Inis Caitleen) walking from the West to the East Bridge of the island.
While in Antrim actor and comedian, Olivia Nash, travels from her home town of Larne to Glenarm, following the scenic Antrim Coast Road.
Actor and singer/songwriter Bronagh Gallagher takes a tour of Londonderry’s historic walls and meets those who go there to work every day.
Olympic gold medallist Mary Peters revisits the city of Armagh as she walks from the Church of Ireland St Patrick’s Cathedral to the Roman Catholic St Patrick’s Cathedral.
Finally, actor Gerard Murphy introduces viewers to the Arts scene in Down when he returns to his home city of Newry.
Liz Gregg, producer of Tales of the FATLAD, said: “Motorways are a boon to the traveller, A to B in the shortest possible time but do you ever think of all the places that you miss nowadays travelling by the more efficient but less interesting route?
That was the thinking behind Tales of the FATLAD, which gets off the motorway and into each of the six counties of Northern Ireland. Each of the six programmes is as individual as the presenters themselves, more than good reason to leave that motorway!”
