Exercise can be fun. Ask your friends to exercise with you. Try some outdoor games in the school playground at break time. Join a swimming club or football team – great fun and you get to make lots of new friends!
You don’t have to be good at sport to exercise. Try going for walk with someone in the family, dancing to your favourite CD, or riding your bike.
Think about different ways of getting exercise for example walking up stairs in shops instead of using the escalator or lift. Walking with family to shops instead of getting the bus.
Do's and Dont's of Exercise
Do:
Gentle warm up exercises before and after exercise to help relax the muscles
Drink plenty of water before and during exercise. The body loses a lot of water through sweat which needs to be replaced.
Don't:
Over-exercise - we must be careful not to hurt the body
Don't eat less than an hour before exercise. If we are in the
water we might get a pain in our side, a 'cramp', which could be dangerous.
Get Going!
Start with gentle exercise/activities and gradually build up. Regular exercise/activities will gradually take less time for you to do. Check your progress by printing out the weekly Progress Report to record your activities and timings.
