Rathlin lies 11km off the Antrim Coast; the nearest town is Ballycastle, and Fair Head, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giant's Causeway are not far away. Rathlin is also close to Scotland: for example, you can see the Mull of Kintyre in the north-east. Looking west, you can see as far as County Donegal.

Hallig Oland is a small island off the north German coast, close to the border with Denmark. In good weather you can see some of its neighbouring islands and the mainland, and during low tide you can even walk across. That's because Hallig Oland lies in a special part of the North Sea where the sea bed dries up twice a day!
