ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Three friends, Danny, Claire and Peter are bored during the school holidays and decide to make a hoax call. They only want some excitement and think there is no harm in it and no danger since there isn’t a real fire.

Later in the week, Peter is at home for his younger brother’s birthday party and is left alone as his mum leaves the other children home. Just as he lights the birthday candles again the phone rings, so he blows the candles out and goes to talk to Danny who says that he and Claire made another hoax call. Peter didn’t know that one of the candles is a trick one that relights itself.

As he chats on the phone, the trick candle reignites beside a birthday card. The card catches fire and the flames spread round the room filling it with thick black smoke. As he opens the door to the living room, the smoke billows out and he begins to choke. A neighbour sees the smoke and phones the fire brigade.

Having seen the fire engine arrive for the hoax call, his friends head round to share the joke with Peter, but find the same fire engine and an ambulance at his door.

The friends realise how stupid they’d been and Peter is invited to see round the fire station. There, he meets two fire fighters and learns more about their work as well as picking up a few safety pointers en route.
