Musical Mystery Tour is a series of ten programmes on the subject of music in which we set off on a musical journey through Northern Ireland, visiting ten locations and looking at themes related to each.
A huge range of music is explored from folk to classical, jazz to pop, world music to rap. The children are invited to join in the search for some 'lost music' which carries them over the week from place to place, following the clues.
The teaching points are interspersed with interesting information on a whole range of subjects across the curriculum in geography, history, science, physical education and dance.
The series is highly interactive and the children are invited to join in singing the attractive songs or asked to add some simple accompaniment or rhythm using body sounds. A wide selection of short musical extracts is played, and the children are constantly challenged to pick out sounds and instruments, and to describe the mood or sound pictures the music is creating.
Although this series has finished, you can still search for programme information, teacher notes and worksheets in the site. Programmes are still available to borrow or purchase from the Audio Visual Recording service at SELB. Just quote the SELB number that can be found below in your correspondence with the unit.

The interactive area extends the radio series and also takes children on a learning journey in search of some lost music. Six colourful activities allow children to explore basic musical concepts in sound, rhythm and mood, and to investigate a range of orchestral instruments.
To help revise material covered in the six activities the site has an interactive quiz.
