At the first Earth summit in 1992, 153 countries agreed that they should set out ways to achieve sustainable development at a national and local level. The Government encourages local industry to cut down on waste. The same principles apply to a large manufacturing company as to an ordinary household when it comes to identifying waste and taking action to minimise that waste.

How green is Northern Ireland industry? Around 100 local companies have carried out a Waste Minimisation Audit and established an Environmental Management System. They can then be certified with ISO 14001, which is an internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems. One such company is Seagate. Find out more by clicking here.
