Before the lunchtime break, we gave out three different job adverts and the pupils were to apply for one of the jobs. These application forms were then passed to two members of staff who had kindly volunteered to act as interviewers in the afternoon. They assessed the application forms and in the afternoon session the pupils were interviewed for the individual posts.

The organisation of the interviews worked in that there were two interviewers working at the same time and the pupils who were awaiting interview had to wait as if it was a realistic interview. So it was really developing skills of waiting and time management and so on, and building up professional skills together with the kind of skills that are needed in an interview scenario.

Following that, the two interviewers gave feedback and the posts were awarded to the pupils who were most successful. Then there was general feedback on skills and the kind of skills that you’d need in a real-life situation.
