Who lives here?
Dr Peter Shirlow provides information on ethnic minority groups in
Northern Ireland including statistics, reasons for settling here, how long communities have been established and where.
Dr Shirlow is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ulster. He studies the geography of Northern Ireland especially with
regard to mapping conflict and change. He is a co-author of the book 'Belfast: Segregation, Violence and the City'.
When Northern Ireland's ethnic minority population was first measured
in the 2001 census it was found to be less than 1%, making it one of the
