Belfast Islamic Centre

The Belfast Islamic Centre was established in 1978 and its aim is to meet the needs of the growing Islamic community in Northern Ireland. The centre not only acts as a place of worship but is also a community centre, social-cultural centre, resource centre, advice centre and a day centre.

What we do

  • Provide facilities, support and guidance to meet the religious requirements of the Muslim community and for their moral development
  • Offer education on how to live as a Muslim and an ideal citizen in a multi-cultural society, as well as education that will help Muslims integrate within the wider community
  • Develop and provide social and cultural services in order to preserve community identity and to create social and cultural awareness amongst Muslims and wider society
  • Provide a guidance and resource service, particularly to educational institutions, hospitals and prisons, and generally to all communities irrespective of their religion
  • Run advisory services to help solve the educational, cultural and social problems of the Muslim community

Examples of our work

  • We provide a service through schools to educate children about the Arabic language, Muslim religion and culture
  • We have a community library and produce resources and research papers for students and community groups
  • We organise cultural programmes and exhibitions of Muslim culture and heritage
