Tammy-Louise

Tammy- Louise is 15 years old. She says,” I’ve been interested in Journalism and working in the media since I joined Headliners nearly two years ago. Headliners have taught me a lot and through it I have become more alert when looking for stories to cover. Being a Headlinert has given me more confidence and a greater ability to work as part of a team.

Working for the BBC was a huge opportunity for me I couldn’t wait for the summer holidays to start. We worked throughout all of July and half of August. My role was as a researcher and sound operator on two news stories. The first was about the continuing usage of text language in our schools and the second explored the issues surrounding the Education Maintenance Allowance

I think we worked really well together as a team. I’m not sure what part of the experience was best for me because I thought the whole experience was a ‘blast’. Working with BBC Newsline and Blast and meeting new people was an amazing experience.

I particularly enjoyed learning new stuff and the editing was a brand new experience. It soon became fairly clear to me that most people don’t understand or realise just how much work goes into producing even a short news story. It took a lot of hard work, time and co-operation with my team mates to get our stories completed.

I’m not sure what I will do in the future but a career in broadcasting would be great fun and a really interesting career.”
