Ruth

Ruth, who is 18 years old, is the oldest member of the Headliners team from Belfast. She recently successfully completed her A’ Level examinations, obtaining three Grade A’s. She intends to take a year out from her studies to work in Spain and improve her language skills.

She says, “This was a dream come true for me. I was the main story presenter on two stories and it was really exciting to see them being broadcast on the main BBC regional news programme, Newsline. I was also responsible for research and organisation of scripts.

I couldn’t pick out one highlight as the whole experience taught me so much but I suppose, if I was pushed, I would have to say that it is extremely satisfying to see a piece of work completed successfully and broadcast within days.

There is no substitute for experience and this really was a great experience. I would love to be a broadcast journalist after I complete my studies in a few years time.”
