Daniel McCrisken

Dan is 17 years old and has just successfully completed his GCSE qualifications at Rathmore Grammar in west Belfast. He will return to school this Autumn to begin his A’ Level studies. He is the longest serving member of Headliners, having joined the organisation, at its inception, in the year 2000.

Dan says, “I worked on two news productions for BBC Newsline and was delighted with the results. The stories were about the Education Maintenance Allowance and the use of text language in written English in our schools. I was heavily involved in research and planning and was the main camera operator.

It was a great experience and the thing that really stood out was the opportunity to interview the Minister for Employment & Learning, Sir Reg Empey in his office, of all places. It was a bit nerve wracking but it all went very smoothly in the end up. I learned an enormous amount throughout the whole process and improved upon the skills that I had already possessed.

This project also afforded me the opportunity to work along side BBC staff and to learn from them. We worked in partnership with Newslines Tara Mills and her expertise, enthusiasm and encouragement was vital to our success.

Even though I enjoyed the television work but I very much want to work as a radio broadcaster in future years.”
