Sounds Classical continues its celebrity series of interviews, and is this week joined by world renowned pianist Barry Douglas who will be performing at this year's Clandeboye Festival alongside other artists such as Richard Watkins (horn) and Michael D'Arcy (violin).

In our Concert Slot this week we hear the Ulster Orchestra perform music from their recent BBC Invitation concert at the Ulster hall. They perform Grieg's timeless Holberg Suite, and Gordon Jacob's querky and colourful Bassoon Concerto. Joing the orchestra is Northern Irish Arts Council/BBC Northern Ireland Young Musician Platform winner Eanna Monaghan (bassoon).

This weeks Disc of the Week is a new release from Deutsche Grammophon- Simon Bolivar conducts the Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 with the Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. We also hear a selection from Handel's Messiah performed by King's College Choir, looking forward to a new release by EMI later this month...

In our concert slot this week we hear Ensemble Avalon perform the first movement of Bax's Piano Trio in B flat. Other pieces included this week are the RTE Concert Orchestra's performance of Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 2 joined by John Ryan (horn) and conductor Robert Houlihan, and Balfe's I Dreamed I Dwelled in Marble Halls performed by Margaret Burke Sheridan.
Finally, we listen to a classic Ulster Orchestra recording from the 80's at the Ulster Hall- Moeran's In the Mountain Country conducted by the late Vernon Handley

This week Sounds Classical features a live performance by Northern Irish cellist David Sloan who performs Ian Clarke's Great Train Race. We also speak to clarinet player Chris King who this month retires after 40 years of service in the Ulster Orchestra, as its longest serving player.
