Danny Morrison is a former Director of Publicity for the IRA's political wing, Sinn Fein. The 1981 Hunger Strike at the Maze Prison attracted international media and political attention. His job was to counter the case being presented by the British Government that the protesters were not prisoners of war, but ordinary criminals. He recalls that in spite of a bitter battle of wills going on between representatives of the prisoners and the authorities, behind the scenes there was secret contact between the two parties.
