"A very testing time" - that's the Derry City chairman's under-stated description of the last few days of financial crisis. Speaking publicly for the first time since the disclosure that players had been paid only a week's wages for the month of August, Pat McDaid said there would be no mass exodus from Derry City. And he confirmed that the club had yet to receive any offers for any of its footballers.

McGINN A "BRIGHT SPARK"

Northern Ireland manager, Nigel Worthington, described the Derry midfielder, Niall McGinn, as his side's only "bright spark" in their defeat by Hungary. McGinn spoke to Mark Sidebottom after winning his first senior international cap has received his first senior international call-up. MEDAL FOR DUNGIVEN BOXER

A local boxer has won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Liverpool. Eamon O'Kane, from Dungiven, missed out on a final place after he was beaten 10-2 by Russian Maxim Koptyakov in his semi-finall. He spoke to Ritchie Kelly after he defeated Armenia's Andranik Hakobyan 6-4 in the previous bout.

Jason SmythPARALYMPIC GOLD

Derry sprinter, Jason Smyth, is the toast of Eglinton after winning the 100 metres gold in a new Paralympic World Record time of 10.62 seconds. He claimed two world records in one day in the T13 (vision impaired) category. Earlier he'd set a new record time of 10.81 seconds... Larry Deeney from the news team was with Jason's family as they watched his second gold medal run.

FOYLE CUP

Ritchie Kelly was live at the Brandywell for the big finale of the Foyle Cup at the end of July. The Derry and District Select beat Waterford 3-nil to win the Under-16 Foyle Cup. At Under-12 level, French side Montpellier were also celebrating when they beat St. Kevin's 2-nil, while the final trophy was claimed by Sheffield United at Under-14 level, when they beat the Derry and District 2-nil.

After 114 years a newspaper that in its heyday was avidly read by thousands has gone. 'Ireland's Saturday night' was published at the end of July for the last time. The 'pink' as it was dubbed initially was a victim of a changing social world following the introduction of digital technology. Derry City bounced back from their 3-0 defeat by St Pats on Friday to reach the semi final of the League Cup with a 4-1 win over League leaders Bohemians who were going for 11 victories on the trot. Derry gave a debut to a young amateur from their A Championship team, James McLean and he made a bright start in a Candy Stripe shirt joining that small group of players who scored on their debut. Derry manager Stephen Kenny spoke to Ritchie Kelly.

DERRY BEAT DROGHEDA

Derry City secured all three points with a magnificent 1-nil win in Drogheda. A fairly even game of few chances went the Candy Stripes' way seven minutes from time when Niall Maginn broke free, ran 60 yards down the right wing before finding Conor Sammon who finished well from 16 yards. The only blemish in an otherwise good night for Derry City was an injury sustained by Gareth McGlynn after just 15 minutes. Despite that, Stephen Kenny was delighted at the final whistle . . .

NORTH WEST DERBY

Derry City's domination of Finn Harps continues. 2-0 to the Candystripes in Ballybofey in the Eircom League derby at the end of May between these bitter north west rivals. Harps fought tenaciously and shaded the first half but Derry were by far the stronger side in the last 20 minutes and two marvellous hits from Owen Morrison separated the sides at the finish. The happier of the two managers was Stephen Kenny from Derry. And for Paul Hegarty of Finn Harps there were thoughts of what might have been.

CHLOE MAGEE - BADMINTON

Chloe Magee, a teenager from Raphoe, has just been allocated a singles place in the Beijing Olympic Games by the World Badminton Federation. The County Donegal player, who's 19, won the place as a result of her world singles ranking of 65 and her ranking of 25 in Europe. Ritchie Kelly spoke to her and this was her reaction to the news that she's qualified for the Olympics.

BILLY GILLARD - INSTITUTE

They've been celebrating at Institute Football club. The Drumahoe men have gained a place in the new Invitational 12 team Irish League but Portadown and Donegal Celtic haven't made it. Ritchie Kelly spoke to the chairman Billy Gillard just as the champagne had been brought out. Donegal Celtic are considering taking legal action and Portadown's club director Bobby Jameson held an emergency meeting....

TRENT JOHNSTON - IRISH CRICKET CAPTAIN

The captain of the Irish cricket side which did so well in the Cricket World Cup has recently retired. The Australian is also captain of Railway Union from Leinster which visited Limavady for the big first round game of the 2008 Irish Senior Cup. The Roesiders ran out winners by 51 runs. Trent Johnston spoke to Ritchie Kelly.

IAN PORTERFIELD - FC PYUNIK

Derry City's European adventure begins in just under a fortnight. Last season the Candy Stripes came within 90 minutes of making the knock out stages of the UEFA Cup. This season, they're in the Champions League qualifying rounds, where they've drawn the Armenian team FC Pyunik.We've been trying to find out about Armenian football. How good is it? Well, Ritchie Kelly's been talking to the country's international team manager, the former Sunderland player Ian Porterfield.

John Robertson received a warm reception on his arrival at Brandywell and this brought the desired effect from the players - thanks to a 4-1 victory over Sligo Rovers. And afterwards, the new boss gave his reaction to his first night at Brandywell.

JOHN ROBERTSON

Derry City's new manager John Robertson, was officially unveiled as the new City boss. He couldn't resist an opportunity to get 'stuck into' the job right away. Derry won 2-1 in Cobh in the League Cup quarter final where caretaker boss Peter Hutton, picked the team for the last time. Robertson had been introduced before hand to his new playing staff for the first time. He was unhappy with the first half display, and went in the dressing room at half time to make his feelings known.

The success local skullers are enjoying at world level in recent times has highlighted the progress being made in the sport here in the North-West. Letterkenny and Coleraine clubs have savoured success at World Cup level, but last Sunday the City of Derry had plenty to shout about when Orla Duddy won a bronze in the Amsterdam World Cup regatta. So what did that performance mean to the local club, here's coach, Declan Doherty.

A local man who was at the All-England Club earlier this week to enjoy the action on centre court was Peter Fryer. He's a local tennis coach, from Shantallow, who's currently undertaking a programme for kids at St. Columb's Park. Dessie asked him what a tournament such as Wimbledon meant to a tennis enthusiast such as himself.

Newbuildings Football Club take on the mighty blues, Linfield. The Irish League champions are in town to officially open Newbuildings' new facilities. Dessie nipped out to Newbuildings this morning for a chat with club Chairman, John Doherty, he asked the Linfield manager David Jeffrey how difficult it is to motivate the players when most pundits have the Blues tipped to run away with the league title again this year.

PAUL HEGARTY

In Ballybofery, Finn Harps recorded a fifth consecutive league victory defeating Athlone Town by two goals to nil. A goal in each half from Mark Brolly and Conor Gethins - who has just signed a one year extension to his contract - maintained Harps promotion push.

Afterwards, the Harps manager gave his reaction to Eric.
