PARALYMPIC GOLD

Jason Smyth, from Eglinton, has won two Paralympic gold medals at 100 metres and 200 metres. He came home in a new world record time of 21.43 seconds in the 200 metres - shaving another four hundredths of a second off his own record time. Earlier he won the 100 metres gold in a new Paralympic World Record time of 10.62 seconds. Mark Patterson asked Jason if he was aware of the excitement back home while he was in Beijing. Joe Doran reported on Eglinton village's preparations to welcome Jason home. Larry Deeney from the news team joined Jason's family as they watched his 200 metres race on television. After the 100 metres gold, Keiron Tourish spoke to Jason's grandfather, Robert Smyth, and asked Jason's aunt, Ilona Nielson if she was surprised. Jason's former principal, Dr Sam McGuinness, told Paul McFadden he's the talk of Limavady Grammar.
