A bright enough start to November, after a week of flooding in the North West.

Portrush has plenty of waves, not so nice down in laHinch, while Peter reckons the huge weekend swell will prove too much for most of the regular Bundoran spots.

The Forecast

All eyes are on a deep Atlantic swell pattern that is already building at the local coasts, bringing the first massive waves of the early winter to local spots tomorrow. Too big maybe, and with accompanying mostly westerly wind, it’s a weekend where many will check the sheltered nooks and crannies that rarely get waves. There's a good chance however that the wind will turn offshore tomorrow up north – that being so, the Causeway Coast might look like cold Hawaii with potentially double overhead waves. By Sunday things go onshore again, but there will be smaller waves.

On the BBC 5 Day
Sun, rain, breezy – the whole lot. Northern water 13 celsius. Last light just 5pm. Weekend tides sizeable, nearly 6 metres at Malin, decreasing. Low, Malin today 4pm.

My bet

Tomorrow afternoon up at the Causeway Coast.

And Finally
It's more or less permanent swell patterns from now all the way through winter, and with them comes the additional severity of winter chill and ever present rip currents, especially on weekends like this where big swell and big tides meet. Be careful in the water.

Texter, Janet: I live in Drumahoe and numerous times yesterday I have cleared gratings blocked by bottles and cans and takeaway wrappers left by the public - not DoE. Janet. Ps, if they would take their rubbish home!
