GARVAN O'DOHERTY

One of Derry's leading businessmen, Garvan O'Doherty, engages with the question of what Derry needs if it's to flourish. He says the city's regeneration company, Ilex, needs five hundred million pounds to do its job successfully. And he makes a few acerbic observations about "decadence" and the "herd instinct".

On Garvan's wish-list for 10 years time:

  • Magee as a stand-alone university,
  • City of Derry Airport privatised,
  • Londonderry Port expanded,
  • Tourism enhanced,
  • Railway expanded,
  • Dungiven bypass completed,
  • Altnagelvin to become a teaching college,
  • New cross-border administration centre
  • Stormont devolves Government office to Derry.
