CRUMLIN GLEN - the clearing up campaign

Crumlin Glen in County Antrim is an area of mixed woodland including the Crumlin River and waterfall. The area has been blighted with litter and has become a night-time gathering place for local young people. To see the extent of the litter left view the last few pictures in the gallery.

The plan is to rejuvenate the worst areas of the car park and adjacent areas. The Crumlin Together Group hope to involve the young people who use the park in the evenings and give them a sense of ownership of the park.

Plans for the site include pruning and replanting, installation of bird and bat boxes on the trees beside the river, removing graffiti and a general tidy up of Cockle House.

The river is home to the 'Dollaghna' - the native species of brown trout.

CRUMLIN GLEN ACTIVITIES/PARTICIPATION

Friday 6th June. The day kicked off at 9.30am and ran until 5pm. The main activities included the creation of a butterfly garden with the help of CVNI and local community volunteers. Litter was removed with the support of DCAL, Antrim Borough Council and more local volunteers.

John says:I have noticed that children are gathering pallets for their annual bonfire on Foyle Road on the lovely green area where people walk and take their children to play. Are the powers that be going to allow this to happen.... to desecrate and destroy a lovely park?
