William Adams - Senior Audio Supervisor

Billy joined the BBC in 1975 from Pye Telecom Ltd. as a Trainee Audio Assistant.

He was promoted to the position of Senior Audio Supervisor in 1987. Supervising a wide range of programming on Television from major News and Current Affairs to Sports outside Broadcast coverage.

Examples include in Studio – Newsnight (BBC2), Dimbelby (ITV), and Outside Broadcast coverage of President George Bush’s meeting with Tony Blair during the second Gulf War at Hillsborough, which fed all the world’s news networks. Further Television outside Broadcast coverage includes most major Irish Rugby, Football, and Gaelic Athletic sporting events in recent times.

In Radio Billy has supervised Studio and Outside Broadcast events from talks – Any Questions (Radio4) to Jazz, Folk, and Orchestral Recitals.

As part of a multi skill initiative in 1992 he has also had considerable experience operating on News Camera operations throughout the last decade, from civil disturbance and riot to “happy good news stories”.

"In recent years Billy Adams has become the established Senior Sound Supervisor for the recordings and live transmisions of traditional and contemporary folk music from the Belfast Festival at Queens, for which I have been responsible. Music balance is a task for a specialist at the best of times but live public performances in outside venues bring their own additional challenges. Billy's professionalism, good nature and dedication to the job have always seen him through even the most difficult of situations. This was most evident at the 2003 Festival when, in a break with long tradition, the performances were scattered around a number of different venues rather than in one place. Despite long hours and uncomfortable de-rigs on cold, wet November nights, Billy remained positive and professional throughout. Here's to Festival 2004!"
