John
Simpson - Audio Supervisor
John joined BBCNI in 1985 as a trainee audio assistant and
has progressed through the ranks to audio supervisor. He has specialised
in radio drama and network documentaries having worked on almost every
play and education programme made here for the last 12 years. |
| John worked on ‘The Northern Irish
Man in CS Lewis’ by Brian Sibley for Radio 4. This earned massive
feedback from the public and the Commissioning Editor Caroline Raphael
wrote, “It was revealing, desperately moving and created a wonderful
picture of life at that time for a certain class and education of
people….The interweaving of fact, juxtaposing his life with
incidents in Narnia, and the simple story of his early years was wrought
together with such care.” Robert Cooper who was Head of Drama
until the end of 2003 praised the Radio Dramas aired on Radio 3
& 4. He was delighted with the high standard and “the
clarity, the creativity, perspectives, the soundscape – all
outstanding – nothing ever jarred and technical finish has
been consistently exceptional.”
John is heavily involved in digital audio editing and trains others
in the use of this equipment. A self-confessed radio head he reckons
TV will never catch on and anyway the pictures are better on the
wireless.
